Hello!
It's about 6:34am and still no coffee in lovely Galway, so I thought I'd take a few moments to address the academic nature of our experience.
Each day we visit some site that has some historical significance- yesterday returning from the Cliffs of Moher on backroads led us to the ruins of an old monastery and an Irish round tower. It's believed that the monks would use these round towers to hide from invaders- element of Irish identity anyone?
On the bus we've been reading poetry- and from the "kids in back" Becky has been voted to have the best reading voice thus far- maybe we can get a recording of her to post here. We've discussed names- mostly family names and then one or two first (including my own).
Museums... some of the museums we explored have had terrific guides, and it only further drives the idea of the Irish Oral tradition that Laure has emphasized so frequently.
We'll be having a talent show in Killarney (maybe?!) or perhaps Cork... I'm apparently organizing it so here's hoping I decide on the city and quickly!
Last night we went for a limo ride in Galway while listening to Galway Girl... yes... I know you're thinking "this girl has lost her mind!" but NO! six of us found a limo and asked for a free ride and suddenly, as Yeats would say, we were in a "brief, dreamy kind of delight."
Best to All of you!
Ashleen
